And so it begins

Here we go with this blog thing.
So we leave tomorrow morning. Our last week in Vancouver has been a poorly-conceived attempt to try to manage a full-time job, a move back home, preparations for a really long bike trip, and Caroline's already-impossible-to-manage social calendar (in itself a full-time job, let me assure you). But manage it we did, and it looks like we're ready to go. I keep reminding myself that we only have to make it to Abbotsford. Abbotsford, for anybody that drives, is ridiculously close. Like next-door close. Easy.
We will have lots of moral support tomorrow too. Caroline's aunt Polly and uncle Chris (who have been housing us these past couple of days) are taking us out for a hearty breakfast to get us on our way, and our friends Alex, Shirley, and Amanda will be riding with us for at least part of the way out of the city. That'll be nice. And once we get to Abbotsford, we'll be staying with my great uncle Harold, which will also be very nice. See, this is easy. No problem.
Not sure when we'll be able to post another one of these blog things, so I may as well tell you that our next stop will be Hope, BC. Our third day and fourth days, having left Hope behind, will probably be where doubt and fear set in. At that point, you can find us on the long, steep, Coquihalla Highway (known colloquially as "the Coke") heading towards Merritt, and then on the Okanagan Connector, as we approach Kelowna. I imagine we'll have time for another post there, so we'll let you know how it all went down.
Here we go…

  6. Wishing you good luck on the road today! Keep us all updated regularly! Please don't leave us hanging....we may worry. :)

In other news, you should have seen Shirley, Pat and I on the way back to Vancouver. Things didn't go nearly as smoothly without the experts navigating the way for us. To avoid that highway overpass, we took this skinny dirt path and then there was a big detour and we ended up back-tracking quite a bit in the end--god forbid! My tip for you--avoid detours, and keep backtracking to a minimum!

  8. Yahoo! Safe travels! I'm seeing if my American friends have any connections for that leg of your journey... if you end up in NS by accident - e.g., can't stop pedaling because you are using fixed-gear attached shoes thing bikes - I've got you covered there haha.
